Move to Norfolk
What seemed like a setback — missing out on coveted big ship assignments — turned into an unexpected gift for a young Navy couple settling into their first apartment near the base in Norfolk.
Move to Norfolk. I did this for several months and then we decided to rent an apartment in Norfolk. We found one close to the base and therefore I was home 3 out of 4 nights and weekends. On my duty weekends, Joan could come onboard on Sunday afternoons. It turned out great. Missing those choice big ship assignments because of my grades worked out very well for a newly married couple.
