2008 - Funeral Trip

2008 - Funeral Trip

On July 15 we were on our way to the funeral of our friend Doctor Ben Thomas. We traveled from Raleigh to Zebulon. As we turned off the main road, I heard the chirp of a siren and saw the flashing lights of a police car behind me. I stopped and the policeman got out of his car and looked at our car and then at his car. Then he came up to the car and told me that a hubcap had come off my car and that it hit his car. He and I went to look at the damage; there were two scratches about 1 ½ inches long on the bottom of the front bumper. He told me that even though the damage was slight, he had to file the necessary reports because it was damage to city property. It was necessary to have an investigator come to the site. Soon there were two police cars with flashing lights behind our car. They got in and out of their cars, talked on the radio and cell phones and finally came and told me that they had it all worked out but they would need pictures of the accident. Soon there were three police cars with flashing lights. After the pictures were taken, they came and handed me the information necessary to submit the claim. Overall, the two scratches required three policemen, three police cars with flashing lights, and thirty minutes of time. I wonder what would have happened if we really were lawbreakers.
